Why FilmTone exists

The problem: Canons deserve their own recipe culture

In the Fuji world, recipes are a culture: entire communities share settings that turn the camera into a different film. One look for every day, for every story. It's part of the joy of shooting Fuji.

Canons have something even more powerful — Picture Styles: files (PF2/PF3) that carry the color grading inside and load straight onto the camera. But there's no friendly web way to create, convert and share them. Canon's official editor is desktop-only, Windows-only, and from another era.

FilmTone exists to close that gap: shooting Canon should feel like shooting film too.

What FilmTone is

A place to create, discover and share film looks for Canon cameras. All from the browser:

• ›Create recipes from scratch or start from a catalog film, a .cube, or a photo you love.
• ›Preview built on the same color transformation written into the PF3 — what you see is what loads.
• ›Download a Canon-validated PF3 ready to load onto the camera: EOS Utility, PSE or SD card.
• ›Share your recipes with the community and fork other people's looks.

Who is behind this

FilmTone is an independent project built by a single developer and Canon photographer who wanted this for himself: to have the films he loves in his camera, without fighting desktop tools. When he couldn't find it, he built it.

It's shared with the community under one conviction: good recipes are meant to be shared, adapted and made your own. Every recipe you publish is a starting point for someone else.

What's new

  The editor gets the same dual download as films and recipes

  When you import your own .cube in the editor, the main Download Picture Style button gives you the compatible version (six-axis, tone curve included): it works on more camera models and in PSE/DPP. A second button appears below, LUT version (exact), for cameras that apply the embedded LUT — like the EOS 600D/T3i — with your LUT's full look. So you can choose both versions just like on the films.

  The editor works without an account again

  If you visited the site without an account, the editor wouldn't let you load a photo. That's fixed: you can try any photo and download your Picture Style without creating an account. Signing in is still only needed to save your recipes.

  The compatible version becomes the main download

  Films, recipes and collections now download the compatible version (six-axis) by default: it works on more camera models and in DPP/PSE. The LUT version — the full look for cameras that apply it, like the EOS 600D/T3i — stays as the second option.

  Two download versions for every film

  Each film now offers two PF3 files: the usual one and a compatible version that works on more camera models (like the EOS M100), tone curve included. If your camera loaded the style but the colors didn't change, use the compatible version.

  More photos on every film

  Films now show several sample photos, so you can check the look in different situations before downloading.

  New step-by-step installation guide, filters to find films by brand, ISO or type, and direct download from the cards.

  Import your favorite LUT

  Upload a .cube (or a Hald CLUT) and we turn it into a Picture Style for your camera — the look you upload is the one that reaches your camera.
